If the 18th century had soap operas, this is what they would sound like—only sung. Philharmonia Baroque’s season opener, Fury and Heartbreak, dives into the fiery world of Italian Baroque music, where emotions run high, strings race furiously, and abandoned lovers pour their hearts out on stage.
Concert Highlights
- Escape to the sound world of the 18th century and hear the music as it was meant to be heard, on period instruments and in the style of the time.

Featuring Maya Kherani, praised for her “intelligence, vulnerability, and a rich, soaring soprano” (Opera News), who brings two heroines’ breakups to vivid life in music by Handel and Marcello.

A grand finale: Vivaldi’s In furore iustissimae irae (“In the Fury of Most Righteous Wrath”) is a blazing showpiece of furious strings and breathtaking vocal fireworks.
