Be Seen: The Genius and Gaze of Black Creatives

Black creativity has always shaped culture—loudly, boldly, and beautifully. Be Seen: The Genius and Gaze of Black Creatives is a love letter to that brilliance. It’s a portrait series that uplifts Black artists, musicians, and visionaries from the Bay Area and beyond, celebrating the way they see themselves and the way they want the world to see them.

This exhibition is about showing up and showing out. It’s about claiming space, telling our own stories, and honoring the joy, the complexity, the style, and the soul of Black expression.

Each image is a collaboration built on connection and trust. These portraits aren’t just snapshots; they’re statements. They’re about power. About presence. About pride.

So come through. Bring your people. Get into the vibe. Let these portraits move you, inspire you, and remind you that Black genius has always been here—and it’s not going anywhere.

This project was made possible with support from the San Francisco Arts Commission.
