Event Details

Did you know they call it the “Golden Gate” because it was a gateway to the gold country and the promised land of gold panning.

In 1848, gold was discovered in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, luring people by the thousands to California. Join Ranger Tammi to find out how this event changed San Francisco Bay forever.

This event is located at the Bay Model Visitor Center, a 300×400 feet large scale model on the Bay Area with all its waterways and hydraulic systems to boot. It was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for research and educational purposes.
