Event Details

Titled “Golden Years Weighing Philippine Martial Law 1972-1981”, this exhibit showcases around 100 original vintage photographs which appeared in various American newspapers during the Marcos administration. The photos were collected from the archives of U.S. newspapers. Some bore crop marks and comments by photo editors, and all had the original caption printed recto or en verso. Majority of the photos were transmitted from the Philippines to press agencies via wire or radio telegraph, with a considerable number printed in the studios of the photographers. Accompanying the photos and their original captions were infographics and timeline that provided context to this period in Philippine history.

DiNapoli gallery opens for public viewing at 1:00 PM. Reception and opening program starts at 2:00 PM in Room 225. The program features statements from the curator, local organizers, and musical and literary performances. Filipino refreshments will be served.

This photo exhibit will be available for public viewing from Nov 30-Jan 5 at DiNapoli Gallery (2nd floor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library) in San Jose.

Please RSVP in advance so we get a headcount for food.
