Registered Nurses and veteran health practitioners Paulina Van and Sandra Kistler will engage us with innovative ways to start 2023 beyond the usual New Year resolutions. Using meditative writing techniques, NIA dance and movement practices, and approaches for coping with grief this session will rejuvenate us from this Covid era of loss and uncertainty. Join us for a unique and illuminating program. Tea and refreshments will be served.

Paulina Van, PhD, RN, CNE is an immigrant from Central America and a descendant of generations of healers. She was licensed as a registered nurse in 1975. Since then, she has created a legacy with many firsts in nursing administration and education. She earned a BSN from the University of San Francisco and graduate degrees (MS and PhD) from the University of California, San Francisco. Currently, she is a Full Professor at Samuel Merritt University, College of Nursing in Oakland, California.

Van’s book of poetry, Regala Healing, offers 100 healing narratives straight from Van’s heart and rooted in unspoken life experiences.

Sandra Kistler, RN, MSN, CIC is a Somatic Educator with special training in the Nia technique. She brings together the latest research in functional movement, neuroscience, and spiritual practices. Her MOVING TO LIFE! classes include many forms of dance and fitness. She is a certified Nia Black belt, Pilates instructor, yoga teacher and Argentine tango dancer. Sandra is a Board Certified Health Coach and Biofeedback practitioner. She was one of the first educators to provide hospital based Mindfulness programs in the Bay Area. She was employed as an Infection Control Specialist at UCSF Medical center and has a Registered Nurse license.

The Nia Technique is a full body/mind workout. All of your muscles, joints and brain are unified. In class, Sandra encourages your movement at your own pace and in your own way. The class is non-comparative with safe, easy to follow movements. Start slow and awkward, everybody does; stick with her to experience the magical transformation of yourself during class and the whole day after, everybody does. The Nia music is beautiful including a variety of rhythms from around the world.
