Join and explore Balboa Park for an afternoon hike on Saturday. See the natural area of scenic meadows, grassland and wetland habitat.

Meet at Balboa Park Bart entrance on Geneva Avenue. From there joiners will trek over to the Cayuga Playground. One of the park’s most interesting features is the story of its retired and longtime gardener and local legend of sorts, Demetrio Braceros, who transformed Cayuga Park’s naturalistic surroundings into works of art. His unique themed gardens and whimsical woodcarvings were featured on the PBS television series ‘California’s Golden Parks’ and in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Then walk through the Excelsior to John McClaren Park. Established in 1927, the park is named for John McLaren, the ‘grandfather of Golden Gate Park.’ It’s an immense Natural Area of scenic meadows, grassland and wetland habitat. More than 7 miles of walking trails meander through its 312 acres, replete with native plants and wildlife.

That will make everyone super duper thirsty so the hike will end at a Beer Garden.
