For one night only, the historic 130-year-old Hibernia Bank Building at 1 Jones Street in San Francisco will be will not be transformed into the Bank of 8 Wheels Roller Disco.
UPDATE – According to posts on The Church of 8 Wheels social media feeds, due to issues with getting liability insurance, this event has been canceled.
What a Christmas downer!!! Well skaters, they say there’s a first time for everything. For the very first time in 45 years of my roller skating experience, I am having to cancel an event. The Bank of 8 Wheels event at the Hibernia has been cancelled. I just got this word from the building management. It seems the Hibernia building management wanted a 10 million dollar liability insurance policy. No skating event can get that.We will refund all the ticket sales and associated fees. The funds will go back into the accounts from which they were drawn.I deeply apologize to the volunteers, the ticket holders and everyone that so strongly supported this effort. If any of you feel anger or disappointment, it’s absolutely nothing compared to what I am feeling as I write this. This would have been glorious!!! This would have been a boost for the entire City!!! Now it’s devastating. The Church of 8 Wheels will be open on Friday, Dec. 29. If you’re still looking to have a funky good time skating that night, come on by!!!
The GodFather of Skate, D. Miles Jr. and his Church of 8 Wheels are taking over the 1892 Beaux-Arts building for a new adult roller skating experience. Skaters will zip around this unique, landmark downtown building which features unique Neoclassical Revival-style touches, including a grand corner location, giant exterior colonnade, and famed verdigris domed entrance.
On Friday, December 29, 2023, join a special roller disco event. Doors open at 7 pm and skaters will roll until 11 pm. Dress in your disco best. Tickets are $30; skate rentals are $10. As of December 22, tickets are now sold out.
If successful, The Church of 8 Wheels hopes to bring their epic roller skate nights back to the Hibernia again in 2024.
