Humanitarian Clown
A deep dive into techniques and methodology
Facilitated by Josh Matthews (Medical Clown Project) & Tim Cunningham (Clowns Without Borders North America)
The world sure could use more clowns, more professionally trained, experienced artists willing to share laughter in places where suffering is at its worst. Interested in raising the bar in your clown game?
In this two day workshop, we’ll offer skills to help adapt your work for these unique environments. Content will include experiential exercises, skills training, and discourse to share the complexities of clown performances in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, elder care settings, refugee camps, war zones, and child friendly schools/spaces. Not only will we play and devise clown routines specific to care settings, but we’ll also take deep dives through conversation into the challenges of working in non-traditional settings.
Taking this workshop will not qualify you to become a healthcare or humanitarian clown, but the curriculum will inform what specific next steps you, as an individual, would want to consider in continuing your practice towards social/ humanitarian clowning.
Be ready to explore physically, improvise, share skills and discuss.
