Join us for an afternoon of Black history and conversation with artist, award-winning book designer, and author of Illustrated Black History, George McCalman

1 – 2:30 pm Illustrated Black History: Talk + Documentary Screening, Koret Auditorium

In celebration of Black History Month, please join us for a documentary screening and talk with featured black artists. In conversation with artist, award-winning book designer, and author of Illustrated Black History, George McCalman and Poet and essayist, Marvin K. White.

 

About The Artists

George McCalman is an artist and creative director based in San Francisco. His design studio McCalmanCo collaborates with a diverse range of clients. He is a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. His first book Illustrated Black History: Honoring the Iconic and the Unseen was published in September 2022.

Marvin K. White, MDiv, is a poet, playwright, essayist, preacher, teacher, and speaker who articulates a vision of social, technology, prophetic, and creative justice.

 

About the book

Illustrated Black History: Honoring the Iconic and the Unseen is a gorgeous collection of 145 original portraits that celebrates Black pioneers — famous and little-known — in politics, science, literature, music, and more — with biographical reflections, all created and curated by an award-winning graphic designer. Hardcover, 384 pages
