96th Ritual for Anna Halprin Exhibit | Oakland
The Mills College Art Museum is proud to present The 96th Ritual (for Anna Halprin), documenting the performance project 95 Rituals, directed by Shinichi Iova-Koga, performed by dance company inkBoat, and presented by Dancers’ Group in 2015.
Dedicated to modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin’s 95th birthday, 95 Rituals culminated in performances at the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco. Featuring photography, video, scores, and installation, The 96th Ritual (for Anna Halprin) explores the creative process of experimentation.
This event repeats daily until December 11, 2016.
inkBoat is seeking performers for a group score as part of 95 Rituals, honoring the work of legendary artist Anna Halprin at age 95, in a series of free site-specific performances at various locations with guest musicians and artists from around the world. All bodies, ages and levels of experience are invited.
Those interested must attend a free workshop with inkBoat on Saturday, June 27, from 9 am to 12 pm at the YBCA. Participants train sensitivities and perceptions to become more receptive to the landscape, resulting in an alternative way to address the physics and mechanics of movement. At 1:30 pm that afternoon, those available will have the opportunity to perform at Studio 1 at 10th & Market St, SF.
Performers must attend one or more rehearsals, the dress rehearsal, as well as one or more of the performances of 95 Rituals
- Rehearsals: Wed-Fri, Jul 1-3, 2-4pm
- Dress Rehearsal: Mon, Jul 6, 4pm call time for 5-8pm rehearsal
- Performances: Tue-Sat, Jul 7-11, 3:30pm call time for 5-8pm performances
*All rehearsals and performances are at the Hyde Street Pier, SF
