INKING / PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION: Multimedia Orchestra Experience is a unique intersection between orchestral music, abstract animation, and neuroscience. By using multi-projection, musicians surrounding the gallery space, and cutting edge electroencephalography (EEG) technology, “Inkling” is an immersive representation of the neural processes during an artist’s creative state. Alongside Inkling is a multimedia performance of Modest Mussorgsky’s monumental “Pictures at an Exhibition”, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel, incorporating Viktor Hartmann’s paintings that inspired the musical work.
Conductor/composer Jaco Wong (https://www.jacowong.com) and musicians from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (https://sfcm.edu) have partnered with animation artist Evan Tedlock (https://www.evantedlock.com), Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Department of Visual Arts (https://art.umbc.edu), and neuroscientist Enrique Vargas, M.D. candidate at the University of California – San Francisco Sound & Music Perception Lab (https://ohns.ucsf.edu/limb-lab) to create this dynamic experience, bringing art and science relevant and appealing for the 21st century audience.
This event takes place in Gallery 308, Building A at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture on Sunday, April 3, 2022, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 for VIP Preferred Seating; $25 for General Admissions; and $15 for Students.
