The Jazz Messengers String Quartet at Blue Note Napa on May 11.
The Jazz Messengers String Quartet is a dynamic group that takes a look at jazz in a fresh new way. Group leader Rebecca Roudman describes themselves as “tossing out the old straight jacket of tired jazz to recapture the fire and sexiness that’s been missing from a lot of modern jazz.”
At the Blue Note Napa on May 11, this dynamic group of bay area musicians will take old jazz standards and give them a fresh coat of paint with the unique instrumentation of cello, violin, guitar, and bass. Mixed in with their hard-hitting instrumental jazz, will be sultry vocals from the Great American songbook. Featuring bay area Latin jazz legend, Anthony Blea, and world-traveling crossover cellist, Rebecca Roudman, along with a hard-hitting rhythm section, this show is great for people who love jazz and also for those who are skeptical about jazz.
The group has been described as “…something different and fresh” in recent reviews. Come hear their take on everything from Blue Rondo A La Turk to Peggy Lee’s Fever. The show will be presented New York style with dinner and drinks in the beautifully renovated Blue Note Napa.
