Flatways
Drummers are seriously goofy, I mean look at what they’re doing. They try acting serious in hopes no one will grab away their favorite implements, and they’ll use anything besides a drumstick so you can’t easily know they’re drummers. But they are. And having a laugh riot never moreso than when the audience sits rapt and pensive. Of course, they’re really insanely good at it too, but still. When there’s more than one drummer, the collective noun is “a corps” and that cracks them up too, or rather, it reminds them to cement their deceptive grimmace keeping the plain ridiculousness of it all to themselves. The triumvirate Jordan Glenn, Sudhu Tewari and Matt Robidoux are virtuosi of the grim visage. Don’t let them get away with it, come laugh and cheer and point at Flatways inside the Peacock Lounge!

Toussaint St. Negritude
Pairing the call of his poetry with the intuitive responses of the bass clarinet, Toussaint’s Fabulous Fugitive Freedom Tour steams into SF. A cosmic spectacle of trans-dimensional journeys, all sights, ears, and souls are summoned to the poignant joys of our collective humanity. Originally from San Francisco, Toussaint has lived and broadly thrived across the African Diaspora, from the sacred mountains of Haiti to the Coltrane District of North Philadelphia. Based now in Vermont, along with bassist Gahlord Dewald he is the leader of the band Jaguar Stereo. All afreakin’ board at the Peacock Lounge!

Julia Mazawa
Always already collaborating, Julia Mazawa is an improviser, illustrator, sculptor and recordist who lives life with play and record buttons both mashed flat, raising timbres from etched slabs, laying and delaying their path from tonearm to circuit to soundspace. The city and it’s people, her life and her compadres, are all drawn forth, folded and spun together into strange familiars, right before your ears.

Sung Kim
Improvising music means improvising his instruments for Sung Kim. Ceramicist, sculptor, and master of millwork, he extends the legacy of Bay Area composers Partch, Harrison, Oliveros by crafting original instruments like the “Ozukuri”, “Trebuchet” and “Nuns Horn” the singular sounds of which really must be experienced in shared physical space to be believed. After all, if an invented instrument is an invented voice it requires an invented language to be spoken in invented time and space. Don’t miss this chance as never before to be present at the creation of now.
