Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day, is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The name “Juneteenth” references the date of the holiday, combining the words “June” and “nineteenth.”
We recognize and honor the importance of Juneteenth with this presentation of Black music mixed live from the great altar by Oakland-based Nina SOL. Nina’s curated selection of gospel, R&B, jazz, Afro-Caribbean and other celebratory sounds pay homage to artists and musicians who have helped to shape American music.
Presented in partnership with Fault Radio, a Bay area based online radio station and member of Intersection for the Arts.
