Kathy Mata Ballet is proud to announce its upcoming performance, Saturday, September 12th, at 7:30pm, in the beautiful 3rd Floor Performance Theater of the Wellness Center at City College of San Francisco. The show will feature KMB dancers performing pieces ranging from the classical to the contemporary. Highlights will include “Midnight Ensemble,” a neoclassical ballet choreographed by Kathy Mata; “Gershwin Tribute,” a light-hearted number accompanied by the Electric Light Chamber Orchestra; and “Motherboard,” a contemporary work that explores the idea beyond the system. The showcase will be rounded out by a variety of solos and duets, and by guest performances including modern, musical theater, and classical Chinese dance. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged. We look forward to seeing you at the show.
Kathy Mata Ballet believes that dance is for everyone. KMB was founded in 1988 as one of the few dance companies in the country to provide adults from non-dance professions with the opportunity to train and perform. Company dancers rehearse several times a week, and come from a variety of professions including engineering, graphic design, and teaching. We further expand the definition of who can be a dancer by accepting dancers of all backgrounds and ages. All KMB performances are offered free of charge or benefit community charities. The company performs regularly for senior centers as well as other community organizations, and has been involved with the Spring Dance Inspiration event, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars for brain tumor research and treatment.
