Event Details

April is nationally recognized as Jazz Appreciation Month. In recognition of the importance of jazz in American culture, KCSM is inviting the public and campus community to come join us and enjoy live great jazz music from local and regional artists and presenters. Portions of the events will be broadcast live and streamed on KCSM Facebook Live media platform.

 

The KCSM Jazz Appreciation Celebration will be held at KCSM, in Building #9, Wednesday, April 17th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the campus of San Mateo College.

 

KCSM Jazz Appreciation Celebration featured presenter/performers include:

 

Performance: DJ Harry Duncan music

Performance: Marilyn Wells, Pianist (KCSM Piano Lounge) (10:15-10:30am)

Performance: Marlon Richardson, Hip Hop for Change, Inc

Topic: “Hip Hop Culture and the Influence of Jazz Music” (KCSM CD Library) (10:40-11:45am)

 

Performance: Elias Applebaum, Stanford University; Topic: “Musical Crossroads: Exploring the Union of Jazz and Hip Hop” (12-12:45pm)

Performance: The Carlmont High School Jazz Band (1-1:45pm)

 

Live On-air Interview – Jesse “Chuy” Varela, KCSM Host, live interview on KCSM-91.1 FM with “The Guitar Trifecta”; the interview will be streamed on KCSM Facebook Live (2-2:45pm)

Performance: RJAM Group of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (3-4pm)

Performance: College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble (4:00-5:00pm)
