Linda Heidenreich, “This Land Was Mexican Once”: Histories of Resistance from Northern California (University of Texas Press, 2016). Explore California’s colonial past and its present day legacies through the lens of Napa, CA, a place of Indigenous, Californio, Euro-American, and Chinese and Mexican immigrant histories. Encounter new twists on the Bear Flag Revolt, John C. Fremont and General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. Delve into the ways that these histories shape local and national identities today. Presidio Book Club is an inclusive gathering that anyone can take part in, whether or not they’ve read the book. Led by Presidio Trust historian, Dr. Barbara Berglund Sokolov. Presented in association with the California Historical Society’s current exhibitions. Copies of the books are available for purchase at the California Historical Society.

Free but an RSVP is required.
