Event Details

SF’s Smelliest “Corpse Flower” is Blooming (August 17-19)

Introducing the return of Terra the Titan! Terra bloomed at the Conservatory of Flowers in 2017 and is now blooming 3 years later. Amorphophallus titanum plants take an average of 7-10 years to bloom for the first time. After this initial bloom, they can re-bloom every 3-5 years thereafter.

The plant is known for the distinct smell of rotting flesh, which only lasts a few days during the bloom.

“Terra” has been places in the front atrium of the Conservatory of Flowers, so even through the venue is closed to the public, you can still view the flower from a special viewing window and, according to Hoodline, there are slits and fans so that you can still get a whiff of the flower’s scent.
