Presidio Free Programs: Talks, Music & Performances | SF

San Francisco’s tradition of diverse cultural expression started at the Presidio, and continues today with events that enlighten, engage, and entertain, taking place at the Presidio Officers’ Club.

Enjoy topical discussions, live music, dance, and interactive family activities, all free to the public and sponsored by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.

Le Jazz Hot (the Quartet/Trio of the Hot Club of San Francisco) is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Hot Club de France. The virtuosity required in conjuring the spirit of the inimitable Django Reinhardt is seriously intimidating, but this band of bohemians is more than game.

The ensemble borrows the original all-string instrumentation, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group’s superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. Hearing the ensemble carries the listener back to the 1930s to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris or the refined lounges of the famous Hotel Ritz. From festivals in Mexico and France to concert halls across North America, Le Jazz Hot keeps this historic music fresh and alive.
