The California Assembly Select Committee on Emerging Technologies is set to convene an informational hearing to examine the benefits and challenges associated with the IoT and impact it may have on consumers, state and local governments, and businesses. It will also consider what role the Legislature should take in approaching this complex and emerging issue. Key academics, industry experts, government liaisons, and consumer representatives will be in attendance.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology that looks to digitize the physical world with smart “things” or products that contain embedded software systems, sensors, and network connectivity.
The subject of the hearing is titled, “The Challenges and Opportunities of the Internet of Things (IoT).” Presiding over the hearing will be Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park), Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Emerging Technologies and Members of the Select Committee.
