Meet the Next Generation of Literary Voices

In a publishing world where only 5-7% of authors are Black, 18 extraordinary young writers from Oakland-based Cinnamongirl Inc. are changing the narrative—literally.

Join these talented youth authors (ages 13-18) as they celebrate the release of “I Am the Legacy,” a powerful anthology showcasing their original stories and poems. You’ll experience moving author readings, get books signed, and witness firsthand what happens when girls of color are given the space to tell their own stories.

Cinnamongirl’s Write Your Story program guides young women through a year-long creative journey with professional writing coaches and workshops. The result? Brave, authentic voices that will leave you inspired and hopeful about the future of literature.

Families are especially encouraged to attend—what better way to show the young readers in your life that their stories matter too?

Light refreshments served. This is a FREE community event (or $30 for admission plus a copy of the anthology to support these young authors).
