Event Details

Author, journalist, and legendary activist David Harris is a former contributing editor to Rolling Stone and The New York Times Magazine, and author of 11 books.

This month, Heyday releases a reprint edition of his environmental classic, The Last Stand: The War Between Wall Street and Main Street over California’s Ancient Redwoods.

Called “an essential read” by The New York Times, Last Stand details the financier Charles Hurwitz’s takeover of Pacific Lumber Company in remote Northern California, and is as much a story about the struggle for the soul of capitalism as it is about the fight to save the ancient redwoods on the company’s lands.

Harris will be in conversation with Kristin Kaye, author of the book Tree Dreams.

This conversation will take place in the Redwood Grove at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Seating is limited, please arrive early. Free with regular admission to the Garden.
