In an effort to create a “live” experience that can be shared with many in real time, Back Pocket Media transitioned its live-storytelling show into an online version with one caveat: NO COVID stories. We all need a break right now and need to have that communal experience of sharing something live and talking about it after with friends and strangers. Without sports, theater, concerts – we are missing that piece of our lives right now.
You’ll experience a curated lineup (that includes Bay Area locals) of storytellers will go live on Zoom on May 8th, 2020 at 7pm.
Why does it matter? During COVID, serendipity is scarce. Opportunities to hear intimate stories from random strangers –– on the bus, in a line –– are now essentially gone. The mission of this event is to reintroduce the beauty and strangeness of the human experience back into people’s lives.
Who tells the stories?
Typically our storytellers fall into one of two categories:
-Journalists: we give journalists the opportunity to tell the first-person account of how and what they went through reporting a story. Our aim is to demystify the profession and humanize the reporter (also their stories are incredibly entertaining!)
-Every-day people: Everyone has “the storyteller” in their family that they look forward to hearing at reunions and dinners. We find that person and put them on stage in front of a live audience.
Let’s listen to stories together.
