“Love Democracy” Free Art Exhibit Opening (SF)

COVEN is launching a new cultural residency and event series at The Fold in San Francisco’s Mission District.

​Kicking off the series is Meet the Moment: LOVE DEMOCRACY, a group exhibition featuring Bay Area artists exploring belonging, identity, community, and the many ways we shape the world around us.

​Join us for the opening celebration on Friday, July 24, featuring Bay Area artists, original works for sale, and selected works on loan from private collections. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

​Proceeds from art sales directly support exhibiting artists and The Fold. Donations support COVEN programming and artist support.

​About the Artists

​Afatasi The Artist

​A native San Franciscan of Black American and Sāmoan descent working across textile art, metal sculpture, and wearable art. Her Afrofuturist work is currently on view in SFO Museum’s Women of Afrofuturism exhibition through September 2026.

​Camille Cohen

​A Mission District-based photojournalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the San Francisco Chronicle. She is a former staff photographer and photo editor at The San Francisco Standard.

​Danielle “CALIBIRD” Fernandez

​A Bayview-based multidisciplinary artist, designer, and community advocate. She is Director of Dragonspunk and founder of the CALIBIRD Pollinator Sanctuary, where art, ecology, environmental stewardship, and community converge.

​Malik Seneferu

​An award-winning, self-taught painter, muralist, and sculptor from Bayview-Hunters Point. Over four decades, his work has been shown at New York’s Schomburg Center and the Smithsonian, as well as internationally in South Africa, Italy, Haiti, and Kenya.

​Margaret Wingard

​A San Francisco multimedia artist whose abstract practice spans dyed aluminum, silk, sculpture, and large-scale installation. A former artist-in-residence at the Arquetopia Foundation in Oaxaca, she has exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad.

​Rasheid Lattimore (Akeemraheem)

​A Bay Area native graffiti artist with family ties to Detroit, translating the energy of walls and trains onto canvas. His work has been shown at the Richmond Art Center and brings hip-hop influence and street-art energy into the gallery.

​Collector Spotlight

​Bradley McCallum & Natasha Becker

​Bradley McCallum and Natasha Becker are a married artist-curator duo whose work spans contemporary art, collecting, museums, and cultural scholarship. McCallum is a Yale-educated conceptual artist and collector known for work exploring race, justice, and collective memory, including his longtime collaboration McCallum + Tarry. Becker, born and raised in South Africa, is the inaugural curator of African art at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, where her work expands how African and diasporic art and histories are interpreted and presented. For LOVE DEMOCRACY, McCallum is lending selected works from their personal collection.

​Mushi Wooseong James

​Creative Director of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program and one half of the conceptual art duo ALEXANDMUSHI. His collaborative work has been presented internationally, including at MOCA Taipei, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, and the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco.

​Paul D. Henderson

​A San Francisco collector, advocate, and board member of the California African American Museum. His collection includes works by artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Kara Walker, Gordon Parks, and Elizabeth Catlett, reflecting a deep commitment to expanding the visibility of artists and communities of color.

​The Fold SF is a unique residence, event space, cafe, and cultural hub in the Mission District – a ‘Third Place’ for people and projects to build capacity around participation and experimentation. With over 6,000 sqft across two floors and four gallery spaces, The Fold comfortably hosts up to 200 guests.
