On November 14, SOMA neighborhood eatery MERKADO will host “Makers & Margs”, an indoor-outdoor marketplace for more than 20 Bay Area makers to showcase their products alongside Mexican bites, tequila drinks and beer

As part of MERKADO’s ongoing community engagement and outreach, the event will benefit grassroots SF-based non-profit “Homey”, which works to empower disadvantaged youths, young adults and families

This weekend, MERKADO SF–typically a buzzy spot for Mexican comfort food, pre- and post-game bites and lumpia–will be transformed into an indoor-outdoor makers market where more than 20 Bay Area-based artists and artisans will showcase local art, jewelry, vintage and other pieces of handcrafted design.

Participants include Tijuana visual artist and SFSU alumnus Arael Domínguez, who creates abstract mixed media paintings inspired by the mind-body connection, and Oakland-based Miko Miyasato, who works predominantly with metal, hand-crafting acid-etched bracelets and earrings.

In addition to creating a venue where small businesses can showcase their designs without the high booth prices associated with Bay Area craft fairs, Makers and Margs will benefit grassroots SF-based non-profit “HOMEY”, which provides services and programs to empower disadvantaged youths, young adults and families, via a raffle held on the day. Prizes will include items donated by the makers, a bottle of Fortaleza Tequila signed by the jefe himself, Fortaleza founder Guillermo Sauza, and dinner for two at MERKADO.

Many other members of the MERKADO family are making their own creative contribution to the event: Executive Chef Lorenzo will play cumbias and other Bay Area classics alongside Lefty(@thereal_lefty) and DJ Kleankut (@deejaykleankut).

While usual MERKADO dining services are suspended during Makers & Margs, its staff will offer Carnitas, Pollo and Impossible Tacos; Nachos; Elote; House-made Chips, Salsa and Guacamole and Agua Fresca from a food truck in the outdoor lot. A full bar will be available, plus drinks specials courtesy of MERKADO’s friends Corona and Tequila Fortaleza.
