Marcus Shelby Orchestra: Green & Blues | Union Square Live 2019

Composer/bassist Marcus Shelby keeps the tradition of the big band jazz orchestra alive with the Marcus Shelby Orchestra. Green and Blues, a new musical suite by Shelby, will celebrate and honor the virtues of a sustainable and green environment with instrumentals, vocals, and spoken word.

The Abolitionist movement, the Women’s Rights movement, the Worker’s Rights movement, the Civil Rights movement, the Chicano Rights movement, and the LGBT movement all used music effectively to inspire, inform, and unify. Green and Blues focuses on the rich history of San Francisco starting with the native Ohlone Tribes all the way to modern day Hunters Point and the environmental disaster that occurred there in 1973 and is still dealt with today.
