Event Details

Join Robert Johnson and Janet Byron, authors of the local best-seller Berkeley Walks, for a free walk around the McGee-Spaulding district, a neighborhood with famous residents and rich local history.

As a center of progressive movements in Berkeley during the 1960s, it was home to communes, collectives, and the home of progressive student leader, Mario Savio. The neighborhood features Victorian, Colonial Revival, Craftsman and California bungalow homes.

Meet near the Ecology Center booth at the Downtown Berkeley Farmers’ Market, a gathering place with several snack or lunch options. Take a flat, easy 2-hour walk on tree-lined streets as Bob and Janet share their knowledge and anecdotes.

Copies of their book Berkeley Walks will be for sale at the Farmers’ Market before and after the walk. For specifics concerning Wheelchair Accessibility for the walk, please contact info@berkeleywalks.com
