Memorial Day at the USS Hornet (Alameda)

Please join us for our Memorial Day ceremony starting at 11 am.

Our guest speaker is:

Michael S. Baker, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Rear Admiral (lh), Medical Corps, US Navy (ret)

The ceremony will be from approximately 11 am to 12 Noon and will conclude with a wreath laying.

At approximately 1 pm the Memorial Squadron will conduct a flyover of the museum.

The event is free for veterans and active duty military personnel (with ID).

Bio of Michael S Baker:

Dr. Michael Baker recently retired from a 40-year career in general, vascular, and trauma surgery. He had a parallel career in the military with a spectrum of experiences that included qualifying in a warfare specialty, combat deployment with the Marines, and strategic planning for both major conflicts and humanitarian emergencies. He served 30 years in the uniform of his country and retired with the rank of rear admiral and has numerous kudos, including 3 Legion of Merit Awards, the Combat Action Ribbon and River and Coastal Patrol Officer-in-Charge warfare pin. He currently teaches history, political science, and military affairs for the Osher LifeLong Learning (OLLI) Programs at UC Berkeley, Dominican University, Cal State University East Bay and Cal State Channel Islands—and is on the Board of Trustees of the newly combined Commonwealth Club World Affairs. He has published more than 90 articles in peer reviewed journals and is on the clinical faculty of several medical schools.

*Adult Admission $20. Veterans, Active Duty Personnel and children 7 and under are free. Seniors, Students are $15.
