Event Details

Migration allows people to adapt and survive. It also transforms a city into a community. Walk through downtown Oakland to uncover these interconnected migration stories.

Inspired by the sounds of local birds and their movements through California, our audio walk explores human migration and the influence various communities have had on Oakland’s identity. Walking from Old Oakland to Lake Merritt, we’ll trace the indigenous history of the Ohlone people, peer into local businesses, look to art for messages about social justice, reflect on the resilience of the Chinese Diaspora, and envision a city where unity transcends division.

GPS-triggered audio will guide your walking route, all you need are headphones and the latest version of the Gesso app.
