The April 14, 2019 program of the Basilica Second Sunday Organ will be presented by organist, Jason Jia. It will feature works by Bach, Widor and American composer Cindy’s McTee’s Agnus Dei, based on Penderecki’s Polish Requiem commemorating fallen ones during the 1970 Polish anti-government riot.

Jason Jia is a San Francisco based organist and aspiring composer. A native of Shanghai,
China, at a young age he was introduced to organ as an instrument from the then banned
recordings by Michael Murray and Ton Koopman. He studied Music and Philosophy at
Wesleyan University, where he was part of an academic research effort led by his teacher
Ronald Ebrecht into works of French impressionist composer Maurice Duruflé. He moved to
San Francisco in 2017 and has been organist at St. Francis Episcopal Church since 2018. He is
currently working on a series of compositions based on maps of Oakland.

The recital starts at 4 pm at Mission Dolores Basilica, 16th and Dolores Sts., San Francisco. The recital is free and donations are accepted in support of the Basilica Music Ministries.
