The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts is pleased to announce the 2019 Day of the Dead exhibit, Cultivando Tiempo/Cultivating Time.
Day of the Dead is a tradition at the center where artists, artisans, educators, and overall community members integrate a truly special exhibit that allows to contemplate the place on this Earth in this lifetime.
Join and celebrate this sacred tradition in honoring the dead with a powerful blessing ceremony, live music and performances.
Altar installations on view will encompass four main installations that represent a season along with an element around a central altar symbolizing the sun in the middle of the main gallery.
This solar altar functions like a compass that points to the directions of west, south, east, and north where the main seasonal altars are positioned.
A community altar will be available for anyone who brings a photo of a relative intended to be remembered, and a small interactive altar for visitors to engage with.
