We’re entering a new age of mass migrations. As today’s world population with four billion restless youth, votes with their feet, what map of human geography will emerge?
Join us for Parag Khanna’s virtual Long Now Talk on 11/9/21, featuring his new cinematic lecture and QandA with Long Now’s Executive Director Alexander Rose and Long Now’s Co-founder Stewart Brand.
About Why Mobility is Destiny:
In the 60,000 years since people began spreading across the continents, a recurring feature of human civilization has been mobility-the ever-constant search for resources, stability and opportunity. Driven by global events from conflicts, famine, repression and changing climates – to opportunities for trade, social advancement and freedom of thought – humans have relocated around the globe for millennia.
But what happens when billions of people are on the move? As climate change tips toward full-blown crisis, economies collapse, governments destabilize, and technology disrupts, we’re entering a new age of mass migrations. Futurist Parag Khanna uncovers the deep trends that are shaping the most likely scenarios for our future and asks what map of human geography will emerge.
Parag Khanna is founder and managing partner of FutureMap, a global strategic advisory firm that specializes in data-driven scenarios and visualizations. Widely traveled, he holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and bachelor’s and master’s degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Khanna is author of numerous books and essays including Move: The Forces Uprooting Us (pub date 10/5/21) and The Future is Asian: Commerce, Conflict and Culture in the 21st Century.
