Monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus plexippus) are perhaps the most well-known and beloved butterfly species in North America. Their renowned long-distance, seasonal migration and spectacular winter gatherings in Mexico and California have heralded the transition from fall to winter for thousands of years.
Join us for a screening of The Guardians, a visually dazzling documentary about the delicate balance between humans and nature which interweaves the lives of the iconic Monarch Butterfly with an indigenous community in Mexico.
The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q+A with Bay Area monarch butterfly experts Mia Monroe, National Park Service ranger, and Liam O’Brien, author of the Butterflies of San Francisco.
