Event Details

Bitter Melon: The First Cut is an exclusive screening of the first cut of this tragicomic “home for the holidays” movie. A Filipino-American reunites for a Christmas party in San Francisco, but the festivities take a dark turn when they decide they’ve had enough of an abusive family member – and that they’re going to kill him. This cut of Bitter Melon has never before been screened in the US and is making its Stateside premier at San Francisco Public Library.

A Q&A with the writer and director, H.P. Mendoza, will follow the movie. H.P. will discuss the making of Bitter Melon, the inspiration for and themes of the movie, and anything else you may want to know about his 20+ career as an award-winning independent screenwriter, filmmaker (Colma: The Musical, Fruit Fly, I Am a Ghost, The Secret Art of Human Flight) and composer (Nomad, Elsewhere, Folx).
