The country’s largest dance week comes back to San Francisco (as well as the East Bay, North Bay and South Bay) for 2011.
The festival runs for 10 days April 22-May 1 and this year is bigger than ever with over 400 free dance events, a huge opening celebration, and dance events as diverse as Scottish dancing, salsa, tango, hip-hop, clogging, fire dance, Samba, aerial dance, hula – you name it and it’s probably happening at Bay Area National Dance Week and it’s free.
Highlights of Dance Week Day 10: Sunday, May 1
7:30 pm – 11 pm
Barefoot Boogie
Barefoot Boogie is a conscious dance event — smoke-free, alcohol-free, scent-free — where we dance to all kinds of great music (world, funk, soul, positive hip-hop, house, tribal, electronica, blues and more) in a creative, connected community space. Relax during the beginning warm-up to slower music, and then follow the musical “waves” — dance, play, sweat, connect, expect the unexpected.
– 8th Street Studio, 2525 8th Street in Berkeley
5 pm – 6 pm
The Ballroom Dances Danced For You
What better way to get acquainted with ballroom dancing than enjoying a live demonstration. Come to appreciate the quality and artistry as our dancers present the waltz, foxtrot, cha cha, rumba, and other popular partner dances.
– Metronome Dance Collective in San Francisco
