Dancing Poetry Festival: Preview for World Tour – The Poetic Dance Theater Company previews selections for World Congress 2011 in Greece. Includes poetry and dance together as a unified art form. 8:15pm at Sportmans Hall San Pablo

The National Dance Week festival runs for 10 days April 22-May 1 and this year is bigger than ever with over 400 free dance events, a huge opening celebration, and dance events as diverse as Scottish dancing, salsa, tango, hip-hop, clogging, fire dance, Samba, aerial dance, hula – you name it and it’s probably happening at Bay Area National Dance Week and it’s free.

Highlights of Dance Week Day 4: Monday, April 25

8 am – 8:45 am
Self-Breema Exercises: Presence and Movement

Many and varied, Self-Breema exercises include gentle stretches, rhythmic movements, and unique postures. Each exercise provides an opportunity to experience the Breema principles. Practicing Self-Breema is both nurturing and energizing–and supports physical and physiological flexibility and vitality.

4 pm – 6 pm
SF City College PE & Dance Department: Beginning Hip-Hop Class
Instructor Paula Plessas breaks down various hip-hop moves so students can successfully learn the final dance routine. Plessas’ hip-hop style is hyper-rhythmical with fast foot work and sharp isolations. She also utilizes old school moves like the Fillmore and Shamrock to show the roots of hip hop.

Dancing Poetry Festival: Preview for World Tour
The Poetic Dance Theater Company previews selections for World Congress 2011 in Greece. Includes poetry and dance together as a unified art form Poet, Richard Angilly, and dancer/choreographer, Natica Angilly, with their company of poetic dancers. Awarded as International Poetry Dance Ambassadors.

6 pm – 8 pm
Intimate Embrace Tango (Adult Class)
Using somatic exercises we will explore our body’s ability to listen and respond to another’s presence in preparation for partner dancing. Guided by the music we will share the joy of communicating through simple Tango steps. No dance experience or partner necessary. Adults only.
