National Dance Week 2011: Carnaval Burlesque Class

Learn saucy movements from the crossroads of World Carnaval Dance and Cabaret & Burlesque from Carnaval SF 08 Queen Kellita from the Hot Pink Feathers. 7:30pm at the Hot Pink Feathers Showgirl Academy in San Francisco

The festival runs for 10 days April 22-May 1 and this year is bigger than ever with over 400 free dance events, a huge opening celebration, and dance events as diverse as Scottish dancing, salsa, tango, hip-hop, clogging, fire dance, Samba, aerial dance, hula – you name it and it’s probably happening at Bay Area National Dance Week and it’s free.

Highlights of Dance Week Day 5: Tuesday, April 26

8:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Beyond Blues: All-Levels Drop-in Blues Dance Class
Come learn one of the original American partner dances, formed in Juke Joints, Speakeasies, Rent Parties, and Clubs from the ’20s to today.

8 pm – 9 pm
Dholrhythms Dance Company: Beginning Bhangra Dance
Taught by Vicki Virk of Dholrhythms Dance Company that headlines the legendary Non Stop Bhangra monthly in SF, this class will teach the beautiful movements of Bhangra Dance. Traditionally done to celebrate the harvest, Bhangra is a folk dance from North India that is full of energy and zest. Its beats and rhythms are so happy and contagious, you’ll smile the entire time.

Drills, Zills & Veil Workout and Bellydance for Kids
Free classes all day. Bellydance with props: gain skills in isolations, slow & percussive breaks, footwork & phrasing. Bellydance for kids: basic rhythms & technique, introduction to veil, combination steps & choreography

Hot Pink Feathers Carnaval Burlesque Technique (Adult Class)
Learn saucy movements from the crossroads of World Carnaval Dance and Cabaret & Burlesque from Carnaval SF 08 Queen Kellita. Feel delicious in a community of delightful women as we articulate our bodies to best express our delectable spirits with isolations of hips and chest, and long gorgeous lines. Adults only.
