The country’s largest dance week comes back to San Francisco (as well as the East Bay, North Bay and South Bay) for 2011.

The festival runs for 10 days April 22-May 1 and this year is bigger than ever with over 400 free dance events, a huge opening celebration, and dance events as diverse as Scottish dancing, salsa, tango, hip-hop, clogging, fire dance, Samba, aerial dance, hula – you name it and it’s probably happening at Bay Area National Dance Week and it’s free.

Highlights of Dance Week Day 7: Thursday, April 28

7 pm – 8 pm
The Apology Dance Project: Unspeakable Version

A special gallery performance of Here Now Dance Collective’s newest work “The Apology Project.” The Apology Project examines the daily human practice of experiencing shame, apology, and forgiveness through an offering of modern/post-modern dance and media installation.

5:30 pm – 7 pm
Dance Generators Performance
USF’s intergenerational dance company, whose members range in age from 18-72, strive to create thought-provoking works of dancetheater. Through our casting, our content, and our movement choices, we aim to stretch audiences’ definitions of dance.

6:15 pm – 7:15 pm
Rakkasah Beginning Belly Dancing
Belly Dance for Beginning Enthusiasts. Basic Techniques taught by Rakkasah Belly Dancers, celebrating 31 years of Rakkasah weeklong workshops, and Rakkasah Middle Eastern Music and Dance Festival productions.
