Nina Jo Smith (Nina rhymes with China) likes to eavesdrop. She borrows stories from small town cemeteries and kitchen confessions. She imagines what her underground neighbors might be saying. Her lyrics tackle tough subjects with a light touch that will leave you smiling through your tears.
Nina Jo is a deft and rhythmic fingerpicker on both guitar and ukulele. She spent the last few years reclaiming her voice after an illness left her lungs damaged.
On Out of the Darkness (2024) Nina Jo lets her injured lungs fly free. Delicate and tough—just like her songs.
Amy Obenski is known for her haunting emotional vocals. But she’s one of those artists who does everything. In the musical realm she’s a skilled vocalist, writes her own songs, is a classically trained pianist and also plays an array of other instruments. As if that weren’t enough, she also composed, arranged, produced and mixed her last sic (out of seven) albums. Many of these recordings were done in her home studio with herself as the recording engineer.
Her biggest breakthrough, so far, was when her song, Carousel, was featured on the hit TV show, Gray’s Anatomy.
Recommended If You Like –

If you can imagine the piano-based songs of Laura Nyro and jazz of Diana Krall with a French cafe accent, you’ll enjoy Amy Obenski.

Nina Jo is influenced by Joni Mitchell, John Prine and Gretchen Peters. She’s been compared to both Eva Cassidy and Buffy Sainte-Marie.

Vaccines, boosters, and masks are strongly encouraged, but are not required as per local Public Health Policy.
