Event Details

🇺🇦 ✊ Join Nova Ukraine and the local Ukrainian community for an inspiring evening honoring the two year anniversary of Ukraine’s Resilience.

️ You will have a unique chance to preview a very special film project supported by Nova Ukraine – a documentary filmed and made in Ukraine by Kyiv-based film director Iryna Pravylo.

“Awoken by War” is a film about the human side of war right after the de-occupation of Kyiv region (Bucha, Hostomel, Irpin, Borodyanka, etc). An honest portrait of the Ukrainians living through the shared trauma of the Russian invasion and its aftermath. We get to know them, get to hear what’s on their mind, follow them in church, at home, inside the trenches and an armored vehicle, behind the artist’s canvas. This story sheds light and seeds hope as we continue to be the witness of the largest war conflict in Europe since WWII.

After the movie materials preview, film’s co-producer Yulia Zimmermann will share some insights on the journey of making an artistic documentary in the conditions of ongoing atrocities of russian attack on Ukraine; importance of the cinema nurturing the empathy; Nova Ukraine’s road map for supporting Ukrainian cinema as the way to share the truth, inspire people to continue supporting Ukraine, giving a chance to independent filmmakers in Ukraine.

The event will be ended by the Panel Discussion.

The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
