Event Details

The Oakland Civic Orchestra will present “A Tribute to Sibelius” on Sunday January 24, 2016, at the Lake Merritt Methodist Church.

The program features three pieces by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), who helped forge the Finnish musical national identity with his folk music-based works, including and especially the pieces on this program:

  • Finlandia
  • Symphony No. 3
  • Violin Concerto, movement 1 (featuring on violin the excellent Myer Johnson-Potter, a high school senior)
