The East Bay’s beloved, iconic 21st annual Art + Soul Oakland is teaming up with the innovative 7th annual AfroComicCon to present a combined street fair and interactive comics convention on Sunday, September 17 in downtown Oakland. Free to the public, the one-of-a-kind event blends comics, art, media, technology, fashion, music, and culture, celebrating Black excellence, artistry, and Afrofuturism. Together, Art + Soul Oakland and AfroComicCon will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop by showcasing Bay Area creatives who have helped shape the uniquely American genre that has become a global phenomenon. Grammy-nominated Hip Hop pionner Yo-Yo joins an all-star lineup in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop with Plaza Stage performances by Bay Area favorites Latyrx & Friends (Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker), 2023 Grammy® winners Alphabet Rockers, and a star-studded Women in Hip Revue featuring MCs Suga-T, RyanNicole, Coco Peila, Dakini Star, Gina Madrid, Breathless, Shy’an G, and Versoul, all backed by DJ LadyRyan. The Plaza Stage program opens with an artists’ showcase presented by Hip Hop For Change – and the stage will be hosted by nationally recognized journalist, Hip Hop historian, syndicated talk show host, and community activist Davey D. Other festival stages will feature Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and Dance. Plus two food courts, scores of artisans, kids’ activities, and much more!
