Oakland Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade 2026

Oakland’s annual Lunar New Year Parade returns to Chinatown on Saturday, February 28, 2026, bringing a full morning of music, lion dances, and community celebration to the neighborhood.

Hosted by the Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council, the parade is one of the East Bay’s most beloved cultural traditions, spotlighting local businesses, community groups, and performers while welcoming the new year in festive style.

The parade begins at Wilma Chan Park and proceeds along 9th and 10th streets through Oakland Chinatown.

What to Expect in 2026

This year’s celebration includes:

  • Live music from Cantonese cover band Midnight Vanette
  • A special appearance by Mark Pelli of the Canadian reggae-fusion band Magic
  • Traditional lion dances
  • 40 local vendors
  • A designated 21+ area for alcoholic beverage purchases

The event not only honors Lunar New Year traditions, but also helps drive foot traffic and economic support to small businesses throughout Chinatown.

2026 Honorary Guest

The parade will recognize Arthur Liu, father of Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu. His involvement in Alysa’s skating journey highlights the important role families and mentors play in shaping the next generation.

If you’re looking for a free, family-friendly Lunar New Year celebration in the East Bay with culture, music, and serious neighborhood pride, this is the one to mark on your calendar.
