Dimensions Dance Theater will celebrate its 50th anniversary with performances of new works by company collaborators laura elaine ellis and Nimely Napla in two performances October 22 and 23 at Mills College Lisser Hall in Oakland. One of the country’s longest- standing dance companies, DDT at 50 boasts a history of artistic innovation and collaboration, culture keeping and deep community connection that has made it an internationally revered model arts organization for half a century. Performances of ellis’ ruminations. [re]visited. and Napla’s Dai Zoe Bush – The Breaking of the Poro and Sande Bush will be performed.

Under the artistic leadership of co-founder Deborah Vaughan, Dimensions Dance Theater at 50 is one of the oldest contemporary dance companies in the US. DDT has become widely recognized for its presentation of both traditional dances and contemporary choreography drawn from African, Jazz, and Modern dance idioms. The diversity and inclusiveness of DDT’s repertoire is unique to the company, and has contributed greatly to its reputation for innovative dynamism. DDT has garnered national and international acclaim for its performances. The company has traveled to Nigeria, Jordan, Germany, Zimbabwe and Cuba, and has danced throughout the United States. DDT has advanced African American dance as an art form through a series of interdisciplinary collaborations with composers, musicians and singers working in a wide variety of African and African American traditions.
