Event Details

This Fourth of July, step back in time and celebrate America’s 250th birthday the old-fashioned way.

On Saturday, July 4, the San Mateo County History Museum invites you to An Old-Fashioned Fourth, a festive, family-friendly event running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that brings the spirit of Victorian Independence Days back to life.

Get creative with Victorian-era crafts, from hand-decorated flags to spinning pinwheels, and soak in the sights and sounds of a truly patriotic day.

The fun extends beyond our doors: An Old-Fashioned Fourth coincides with Redwood City’s Fourth of July Parade, themed America 250 in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial. Watch for the History Museum’s own entry in the parade featuring gleaming carriages and early automobiles as a preview of our upcoming Taube Carriage House and Automobile Gallery. ‘

It’s a perfect day to make memories, learn a little history, and join your community in one of the grandest birthday celebrations this country has ever thrown.

Free for members, included with general Museum admission.
