Event Details

Courage Under Fire: The Story of Elroy is a story about family, race, politics, and redemption. The work explores the extraordinary life of Simpson’s father,  Elroy Simpson. It’s a very personal story of transcendence from Jim Crow’s insanity towards personal fulfillment through a revolutionary act. Thomas traces four generations of his family to understand the evolution of this act and its significance in the life of Elroy and those around him. Courage Under Fire… is a multimedia theatre work based on text, video, and projections.

Written and performed by Thomas Robert Simpson, actor, director, producer, and writer is the founder and artistic director of the award-winning AfroSolo Arts Festival, now celebrating its twenty-fourth season. Noted for his acclaimed one-man show, Still Headin’ fo’ da’ Promise Land, Simpson writes and performs solo works about the African American male experience.
