Event Details

The Compound Gallery is excited to present a new solo show by David Fullarton, Everything’s Getting Worse and I’m Not Helping.

The mixed media show runs from Aug. 30 – Oct. 12 and includes an opening reception from 6-9pm on Saturday, Aug. 30. The spectacularly sumptuous opening will include drinks, treats, lively conversation, flat files filled with Fullarton prints, and fantastic new art.

Fullarton—a Scottish born, San Francisco based visual artist and illustrator—has spent most of his somewhat checkered artistic career attempting to create a piece of artwork that doesn’t have words written on it, but has failed dismally so far.

To create his vibrant and humorous paintings, Fullarton mines the notebooks he has filled with odd words, catch phrases, numbered parking lot receipts, warnings, and instructions in foreign languages. Collaging text, numbers, and images onto brightly colored grounds, Fullarton delights in lifting phrases and images from their contexts and placing them in new surroundings that amend and redirect their meaning. With decidedly adult humor, his work celebrates the strangeness of daily life, memorializes events from his own past, and gently mocks common human foibles.
