Original Famous Twang Sundays is a free, all-ages concert series at Thee Parkside in Potrero Hill.

Come by every Sunday; there’s always a fresh traditional or contemporary live act and a surprise special to purchase from the kitchen.

Sunday, December 7th, Original Famous Twang Sundays welcomes The Deadlies and The Reefriders to Thee Parkside.

The Deadlies are entirely new type of surf band, paying homage to the Ventures Dick Dale and the Chantays as well as the California Honky-tonk sound of Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam while keeping an underlying presence of the California surf punk scene that brought us the Dickies, Agent Orange and Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs. The Deadlies are the house “Cave Band” on “Creepy KOFY Movietime” and appear frequently on Retro Night on the ABC affiliate KOFY TV-20 cable channel 13. The Deadlies toured recently with Lisa Marie Presley and the Maverick’s and opened for Blue Oyster Cult, the B-52’s, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and numerous puppet shows. They are the “house band” at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA and for Sacramento’s KMAX 31 show “The Car Czar.” They’ve also appeared on “Good Day Sacramento,” the “Rachael Ray Show,” “Eye On the Bay” and the Discovery Channel’s “King of Kustoms.”

The Reefriders have been entertaining music fans throughout California with their solid surf-style sounds. The three-piece instrumental guitar band serves up quite a collection of surf music including hits from the classic early ’60s surf bands like the Ventures, the Astronauts and the Bel-Airs, to the red hot scorching sounds of Dick Dale. Covering surf classics like Pipeline, Misirlou, and Surf Party, the Reefriders take their audience on a joy ride through time with wild music as popularized in the movie Pulp Fiction. Just when fans begin to enjoy a taste of some mellow surf tunes, such as from the ’60s cult classic surf movie “Endless Summer”, or the modern tune “Talking to Trees,” watch out because things heat right back up with the band’s creative and powerful renditions of tunes by modern instrumental legends such as Los Straitjackets and Jon and the Nightriders, as well as other killer surf guitar classics and original compositions.
