Sunday, June 21st Original Famous Twang Sundays welcomes Johnny Oklahoma, Crosby Tyler into Thee Parkside.
Johnny Oklahoma grew up in the town of Norman, Oklahoma in the 1950s and ’60s, absorbing the sounds of country, blues, rockabilly, and folk music that filled the airwaves. He got his first real guitar at the age of 12 at the height of the folk music revival and started his first band at the age of 14, playing the garage rock popular among the high school kids of the time. He performed as a bassist, guitarist, and singer with a number of bands, including Fast Floyd and the Firebirds, notable as one of the first bands to introduce rockabilly, country, and blues influences to the late ’70s San Francisco punk scene. For the last several years he has been bandleader and front man for The Legendary TB Slick Revue, performing the kind of honkytonk and outlaw country he grew up with and running a private 24 track recording studio.
