Experience the great films of Hollywood’s Golden Era in one of America’s finest Art Deco movie palace.
With over 3,000 seats and a meticulously-restored interior, the Paramount offers a true “Movie Palace” experience straight out of the 1930s – with period newsreels, cartoons, previews, live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ and the audience participation spinning wheel game of “Dec-O-Win.”
August 26th Screening: DR. STRANGELOVE or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) – A crazed Air Force general launches nuclear-armed bombers against the Soviet Union, and the U.S. president and his cabinet gather in the War Room to respond to the crisis. Stanley Kubrick’s chilling Cold War classic rachets up the tension – and the comedy – as the bombers creep closer and closer to their targets. As the mad General Jack D. Ripper, Sterling Hayden delivers what may be the signature performance of his career. The roles of RAF Group Captain Mandrake (the British advisor to General Ripper), Dr. Strangelove (a Nazi scientist turned U.S. presidential advisor). and Merkin Muffley, the President (of the United States) are all played to the hilt by the multi-talented Peter Sellers. George C. Scott plays War Room commander General Buck Turgidson, Slim Pickens plays bomber pilot Major Kong, and James Earl Jones plays bomber navigator Lieutenant Lothar Zogg. Armed with this stellar cast and a script by Terry Southern, Stanley Kubrick directed what is still hailed as the most viciously hilarious satire in film history.
